MARLBOROUGH, MA — The third Marlborough location of a national fast-food chain is officially open along Route 20.
McDonald's opened Monday at 735 Boston Post Road East. The Spadea and Balducci families hosted a grand-opening celebration featuring a ribbon-cutting, flag-raising, backpack giveaway and donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest.
Both families, part of the Sellia Group, operate McDonald's locations across the region.
Grimace and Miss Massachusetts 2026 Ashlyn Mercier also attended the celebration. Mercier, a Westborough police officer, was crowned in June.
Students received free backpacks donated by the restaurant's owners. The families also presented a $1,000 check to the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest, which operates its Marlborough Clubhouse at 169 Pleasant St., offering educational, recreational, arts and technology programs for students in grades 1 through 12.
The new restaurant was built at the former site of Joy Asia Restaurant. Marlborough approved a special permit for the project in 2025, allowing McDonald's to replace the existing building and former diner foundation with an approximately 3,830-square-foot restaurant, drive-through, parking areas and landscaping, according to the City Council's decision
The location joins two other McDonald's restaurants in Marlborough at 250 Maple St. and 155 Boston Post Road West. The Spadea and Balducci families also own those restaurants.
