MARLBOROUGH, MA — The Marlborough Police Department will face a three-day review this fall as it works to maintain its state accreditation.
Assessors appointed by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission will visit the department Oct. 6 through Oct. 8 to examine its policies, procedures, operations and documentation. The voluntary process measures whether the department complies with professional standards for policing, accountability and community service.
The department is currently listed as fully accredited by both the City of Marlborough and MPAC. Accreditation awards last three years, with accredited agencies undergoing recurring assessments to maintain their status, according to the commission.
MPAC standards address areas including use of force, training, internal affairs, patrol operations, criminal investigations, detainee transportation, emergency planning, records and evidence control, according to the commission.
During an on-site assessment, reviewers tour department facilities and examine agency files before providing findings and recommendations. The commission then decides whether to grant renewed accreditation.
Deputy Chief Daniel Campbell is serving as the department's accreditation manager and contact for questions about the review.
