SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH– The Walk 'n Mass Volkssport Club invites walkers to complete a 6km or 10km (3.7 or 6.2 mile) walk route in Cambridge, MA. This is a walk-at-your-own pace, just-for-fun event “in your own backyard.”
The start point is in the Micro Center/Trader Joe’s parking lot, 730 Memorial Drive,Cambridge, MA 02139. Registration for the walking event is from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Finish by 2:30 P.M. Participation fee is $4.00 per person.
Walk routes go through Cambridge with historic homes, Harvard University campus, and along the Charles River on the Paul Dudley White Path. The 10km route consists of a 6km route plus two loops that branch off. All walkers begin by crossing Memorial Drive and entering the Paul Dudley White Path along the Charles River. After about 2km, the 10km distance crosses the pedestrian/bicycle-only Weeks Bridge over the Charles River to several interesting art and building sights on the Harvard Business School campus before rejoining the 6km walkers and entering the original Harvard campus. Sights along the route include Harvard Square, Cambridge Commons, and a labyrinth near Harvard Divinity School. The route then follows campus paths and streets past several Harvard museums (free to Massachusetts residents and open on Sundays, restrooms available).
The walks are mostly flat and on paved surfaces. The 6K route would be suitable for strollers and wheelchairs but, because of the stairs on the 10K, it would not be suitable for either strollers or wheelchairs.
Volkssporting events sponsored by Walk 'n Mass Volkssport Club promote fun, fitness and friendship through non-competitive walking and biking to the public for a $4.00 fee. There is also an achievement awards program through the American Volkssport Association (AVA). For further information contact Carol at 302-399-6334 or caroldclay101@gmail.com.
