Clean Sweeping Marlborough: Join The Effort

The city announced its annual Earth Day cleanup effort schedule.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — In celebration of Earth Day, the city's holdings its annual city-wide Marlborough Project Clean Sweep on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 9 am. The rain date is Sunday, April 9, at noon. Residents, elected officials, civic groups as well as corporate and business representatives join together to clear trash and debris from streets, neighborhoods and parks throughout Marlborough.

“Marlborough Project Clean Sweep is an annual community event that draws those that work and live in Marlborough to collaboratively engage in the beautification of our city," said Mayor Arthur Vigeant in a statement. "The Clean Sweep is a great way to show the pride we have for our neighborhoods and downtown areas. Last year over 300 volunteers participated and picked up 4.23 tons of trash and debris.We are hoping to increase participation this year so that we can make our City look its best.”

Volunteers gather at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at the DPW Municipal Garage at 135 Neil St. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves. Work assignments, t-shirts and trash bags will be distributed to all volunteers at the check in station. Participants are encouraged to take pictures of their efforts and send them to dpw-dispatch@marlboroughma.gov.

Those unavailable to assist with efforts on the Saturday April 8 can still participate by picking up trash and sweeping their respective sidewalk areas into the roadside gutter (to assist the street sweepers). Full yellow trash bags will be picked up by the DPW the week of April 10th. Yellow trash bags can be obtained at the DPW office prior to April 8.
