Flood Watch Issued for Marlborough

Heavy rains falling on top of snow banks could cause flooding in the Marlborough area on Friday, the National Weather Service warns.

A flood watch has been issued for Friday due to a storm expected to drop up to two inches of precipitation on the region. In addition, the Marlborough area should also expect high winds. 

Forecasters expect the storm to start late Thursday night and turn to rain by Friday morning. A total of one to two inches of rain is expected to fall during the storm.

The heaviest rain will likely hit mid-morning on Friday and will continue through Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-40s in Marlborough and the lower 50s in some surrounding areas, causing the snowpack to continue to melt, which could add as much as another inch of water into the ground by midday Friday.

Areas of poor drainage are expected to be the worst hit, with snow and ice-clogged drains expected to create some flooding. Some small streams may also rise, filling its banks.
