(BOSTON) - On Wednesday, August 26th, Representative Danielle W. Gregoire (D-Marlborough) joined in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the women's suffrage movement at Marlborough City Hall as part of Women’s Equality Day. She was joined by Congresswoman Lori Trahan, Mayor Arthur G. Vigeant, State Representative Carmine Gentile, State Senator Jamie Eldridge, City Councilors Kathleen Robey, Laura Wagner and Samantha Perlman and members of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, GFWC MA, and GFWC Marlborough Junior Women's Club. Women's Equality Day is observed annually on August 26th, allowing communities to commemorate the 19th Amendment’s ratification, guaranteeing women the right to vote.

“It was an honor and privilege to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement and the giant step our country took in 1920 towards equality and a more perfect Union,” said Representative Danielle W. Gregoire (D-Marlborough), House Chair of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight. “I am listed as the 166th woman to be elected to the House of Representatives and the only woman to have served this District in the House. I take tremendous pride in that, while knowing full well that our work is not yet done. We have much more to do to honor the brave women, and men, before us that fought for the rights we have today, and I look forward to continuing that fight.”

After the celebration, Representative Gregoire joined Executive Director of the Marlborough Community Development Authority, Vonnie Morris, Associate Director of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, Ben Stone, Mayor Arthur G. Vigeant, State Representative Carmine Gentile, and State Senator Jamie Eldridge at a groundbreaking ceremony for the 29 Pleasant Street Modernization Project. This public housing complex was originally built in 1961, with a total of forty-two units, and now, thanks to the efforts of the Marlborough city and state delegation, funding was secured for the modernization and rehabilitation of this complex.

“I am thrilled that we were able to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Pleasant Street Modernization Project yesterday,” said Gregoire. “This was an incredible collaboration between our local and state officials to ensure we have safe and secure affordable housing options for our seniors and persons with disabilities. I am very excited for the continued renovation of this property for our residents.”
