High School Hockey Team Raises $17K For Marlborough Food Pantry, Veterans Group

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A local high school hockey program worked together to raise thousands of dollars for community organizations in Marlborough and beyond.

The varsity hockey team at Hillside School in Marlborough recently wrapped up its “Points for Charity” campaign, a season-long fundraiser launched earlier this school year. Led by junior Nicolas Luizzo, the initiative tied team performance to charitable giving, with donations increasing as the team scored throughout the season, according to an announcement from the school.

By the end of the campaign, the team raised a total of $17,000.

Of that amount, $12,000 was donated to the Marlborough Community Cupboard, a local food pantry located at 255 Main St. in Marlborough that serves hundreds of residents each month, the school said. The organization provides groceries, fresh produce, and also offers gently used clothing to clients during their visits.

In addition to financial contributions, players at the all-boys boarding school also delivered tangible goods to help stock the pantry’s shelves, including diapers, toothpaste, and other essential household items, the school said.

The remaining funds were donated to Clear Path for Veterans, a nonprofit supporting veterans and their families through housing, wellness, and community programs.

Team organizers said the goal of “Points for Charity” was to connect athletic success with community impact, and to give players a hands-on role in addressing local needs, according to the announcement.
