Hospital In Marlborough Evacuated Overnight For Heating, Water Issues
Patients were moved to other hospitals in the area.
MARLBOROUGH, MA — A hospital in Marlborough was evacuated early Monday morning, citing heating and water issues.
Shortly before 6 p.m. on Sunday, a large valve failure at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Marlborough caused flooding that affected the boiler system, reducing heat inside the hospital.
The hospital campus went into a 'Code Black' and ambulances began moving patients to other UMass Memorial Health Hospitals. Other area hospitals could be facilities in Worcester, Clinton, Fitchburg, Leominster, Southbridge, Webster or Milford.

Nearby agencies helped with the transport process, including the Northborough Fire Department, which wrote, "Engine 2 enroute to assist with the process of evacuating and transporting all Marlborough Hospital patients due to a major heating system failure. Numerous ambulance strike teams actived," in a social media post.
UMass Memorial Health said the valve issue has since been resolved, and all water was removed from the basement, as mitigation efforts continue.
The hospital will accept walk-in emergency patients, but patients admitted via the Marlborough Emergency Department will be transferred to another facility.
It will remain in 'Code Black' and closed for inpatient services until further notice.
