MA RMV Planning Customer Service Center In MetroWest Area

Marlborough, Milford, Westborough and several other local towns are possible sites, according to a legal notice.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Your next trip to the Registry of Motor Vehicles might involve less driving.

The state Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance — an agency that deals with maintaining state properties — this week posted a legal notice seeking bids for a new RMV office somewhere in a wide area between Marlborough and Milford.

The legal notice specifies that the office should be within a half mile of an interstate highway in Ashland, Framingham, Hopkinton, Marlborough, Milford, Southborough or Westborough. The customer service space needs to be about 8,000 square feet, and come with a 10-year lease, according to the notice.

The big area between Natick and Worcester is notably lacking an RMV service center. There are two RMV offices in Framingham and Marlborough, but those are for AAA members only. The Natick RMV center is also limited to just driver's license renewals and amendments.

Unless you're a AAA member, the only options for full-service RMV centers in the MetroWest area are in Worcester, Watertown, Milford and Leominster.
