Marlborough Boy Wins In New England Regional Braille Challenge

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough student was one of the top finishers in 20th New England Regional Braille Challenge held on Feb. 1 at the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton.

Benjamin Silva won in the "apprentice" category for kids in grades 1 and 2. Silva's win could make him eligible to proceed to the Braille Challenge finals in Los Angles this June.

About 1,000 braille readers compete in 51 regional competitions each year. The students are tested on skills in reading comprehension, graph reading, spelling, and proofreading. The competition is for blind of visually impaired students in grades 1 through 12.
