MARLBOROUGH, MA — Downtown Marlborough will soon benefit from a $3 million MassWorks grant.

The city found out about the grant last week, and will use it to upgrade infrastructure along Main Street in the downtown area, although no specific area has been finalized yet.

The grant will partly focus on connecting downtown's shops and restaurants to French Hill. A down-payment on that connection came earlier this year when the city received a $179,000 MassDOT grant to extend the Assabet River Rail Trail to Main Street.

"We are very excited to be receiving a MassWorks award again this year," Mayor Arthur Vigeant said in a news release. "This one is particularly exciting because it allows us to extend and expand upon our efforts towards revitalizing downtown all while further connecting French Hill, the Rail Trail and the downtown area."

Marlborough was one of 360 applicants to the annual MassWorks program overseen by the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development. Marlborough previously received a $2 million MassWorks grant in 2019 for upgrades along Lincoln Street.
