Marlborough Gets Funds For City Projects In 2023 State Budget
Lawmakers have added thousands in earmarks for various projects in Marlborough, according to the budget.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — The state fiscal year 2023 budget approved this week by lawmakers includes a number of funding boosts for Marlborough, according to budget documents.
The state's main education funding program — called Chapter 70 — increased from about $4.7 billion in last year's budget to $5.1 billion in fiscal 2023. Marlborough's Chapter 70 aid also got a boost from $31.1 million in the last school year to $37.6 million for fiscal 2023.
But many other city departments from police to the library are getting help in the budget, too. Here are the earmarks lawmakers carved out for various local projects:

- $300,000 for the Marlborough Public Library Foundation to buy items like computers, furniture, bookshelves and printers for the library
- $100,000 for a new roof at the Williams Lake pumping station
- $100,000 for replacement of garage doors at a Marlborough fire station
- $75,000 for renovations at the Westerly water treatment plant
- $50,000 for sprinkler repairs at the Marlborough police station
- $30,000 for the installation of a sprinkler system at Marlborough City Hall
The budget was hammered out in a conference committee and unanimously passed both chambers. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has 10 days to sign the budget.
