Marlborough Police Catch Man Breaking Into Church

The man was charged with breaking and entering and vandalism.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough man was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with breaking and entering into a church. Police said they caught the man in the act and he appeared to be intoxicated.

John Hawkesworth, 22, was caught by police in the basement of Holy Trinity Angelican Church at at 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday. Police received a call from someone in the area and found Hawkesworth inside the church, intoxicated.

He broke into the church through an alley window, which led to the basement. Other than the broken window, which resulted in a vandalism charge, no other damage was done to the church. The man did not give officers and explanation as to why he broke into the church to begin with.
