Marlborough Resident to star in XANADU!

Marlborough resident Shannon Hinkley discusses her role in the energetic stage version of the 1980s film XANADU....(yes, THAT Xanadu!)

MOONSTRUCK THEATER COMPANY, in association with Amazing Things Art Center of Framingham, is pleased to present XANADU, opening Friday, July 24, and running for seven performances through Sunday, August 2.

Based on the cult-classic Olivia Newton-John film, XANADU follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Clio, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first ROLLER DISCO! But, when Clio falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

XANADU features 9 performers from the Boston and Metro West regions, including Marlborough resident Shannon Hinkley, who plays Euterpe, one of Clio’s older sisters and muse of music.

“Anyone who lived through the 80s has heard of XANADU,” says Hinkley. “They know the movie, but they don’t know the musical! The show pays homage to the original source but is a completely different animal. It’s so funny and witty.

“I’m a child of the 80s. Olivia Newton-John was like a goddess during the late 70s and early 80s and XANADU is one of those cult classics that only come around once in a while. I’ve always loved the soundtrack and wanted the opportunity to participate in a show that was such a part of 80s pop-culture,” Hinkley says. “The music stands the test of time. Even if you weren’t a fan of the movie, you need to come see how different the musical is and escape for a few hours into 1980 Venice, CA.”
