Marlborough Veterans Fishing Event Offers Safe Socializing

The Sept. 14 event aims to bring veterans together for a safe social activity after limits on gatherings during the pandemic.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — It was a long spring, and it's been a very long summer. But Marlborough officials are planning a fishing event for local veterans to hopefully provide some safe, social fun after pandemic disruptions.

Here's more from a city of Marlborough press release:

Mayor Arthur Vigeant’s office and Veteran’s Agent Mike Hennessy announce an upcoming Fishing Outing for Marlborough Veterans to be held on Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marlborough Fish & Game Club, 1 Muddy Lane. The rain date is Sept. 15.

The outing will be limited to 20 participants and include a light breakfast and lunch provided by the Marlborough Fish and Game Club. Participants can bring their own pole and bait, or the Club will provide these items. No fishing experience necessary. There will be volunteers on hand to assist.

The idea came into a reality when Veteran’s Agent Mike Hennessy called the Marlborough Fish and Game Club and asked if there was any way he could get a few veterans together to fish.

“I really wanted to get some folks out of the house and have a fun and safe activity for them to do after months of isolation. The club loved the idea and was more than happy to accommodate us,” said Michael Hennessy.

“What better way to relax outdoors and enjoy some fresh air while socializing amongst friends,”
said Mayor Arthur Vigeant.
