MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough has identified a potential site for a new fire station on the west side of the city, which has been a main priority for Mayor Arthur Vigeant.

On Monday, the City Council will review a proposal to spend $440,000 on a 1.23-acre parcel at 418 Elm St., which is just north of an I-495 ramp and the commercial district centered around Apex Entertainment.

The money would come from an economic development fund and would be transferred to the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation for the purchase. The property contains a home, which would be split from the main property and resold, according to a memo sent to City Council.

Marlborough has been eyeing a new west side fire station for years due to new development west of I-495, and in 2018 set up a committee to search for a location. Vigeant highlighted the new station as a priority after he won a fifth term last fall.

The City Council will hold a public hearing at a later date before final approval of the site purchase.
