Something for Everyone at Welly's

restaurant is a fusion of upscale dining and pub atmosphere: A local watering hole where buddies can enjoy pints of Guinness and watch the big game, while a couple romantically celebrates their one year anniversary, tucked away at a corner table.

In October 2009, Gilmar Deoliveira and Wellington Depinho opened in the heart of Marlborough. "I designed and built everything myself from scratch. It took about four months to do," Deoliveira modestly divulged. "We wanted to create a warm, cozy atmosphere."

 And they accomplished just that. The warm red oak woodwork adorning the interior of is a welcome contrast to the biting wind and frigid temperatures outside this time of year. Acoustic, folksy music reinforces the relaxed atmosphere, and two flat screen TVs mounted over the bar unobtrusively update patrons of the latest sports news.

The modestly priced menu offers something for everyone, all of which is made from scratch using the freshest ingredients, said Deoliveira. Craving a juicy burger crowned with sweet BBQ sauce, onion straws and cheddar cheese? How about one of their many gourmet pizzas? Fancying a lighter fare, perhaps the pan seared haddock or the Sante Fe chicken salad? The dilemma here is that there are too many mouth-watering entrees from which to choose.

Before opening , Doliveira had worked in the restaurant business for 20 years in Newton, 10 of which he worked with Depinho. "It was a lot of work and very hard in the beginning for us. But people really like it and give great reviews," Doliveira remarked in reference to opening a restaurant.

What does the future hold for Welly's? In the next three months, they plan on expanding to next door, in order to accommodate larger groups and reservations. Right now the restaurant offers only beer (nine on draft) and wine, but hopes to obtain the proper licensing in the upcoming months to become a full bar.
