2 Medevaced from Martha's Vineyard

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — Coast Guard crews medevaced two people from Martha's Vineyard Tuesday morning.

One was a 17-year-old girl who suffered a head injury; the other was a 39-year-old man suffering a heart condition. Icy conditions grounded a civilian medical air transport, so a Coast Guard helicopter picked up the girl and transported her to Tufts Medical Center. An Coast Guard ocean sentry plane picked up the man and transported him to Cape Cod Hospital in Barnstable.

"People who need us are not always out on the water,” said Lt. Nick Peters, one of the helicopter pilots, in a statement. “This was our third medevac in two days from Martha's Vineyard because of less than ideal weather conditions. Our job, just like the people who work in the hospital, is to save lives.”
