I moved to the island about three years ago to live with my daughter and her family. My job in the family is to take care of my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. Lilah and I have a great time together. A great time for me includes shopping. Lilah especially likes going to the grocery store.
When I lived in Falmouth I shopped for food about once a week. After Lilah's birth, here on the island, I started shopping everyday. I love being home but I have to get out at least once a day. I have no choice. It's either get out of the house or take medication. So Lilah and I started shopping at Cronig's Market every day. We became regulars. I loved Cronig's right away because they had so much organic food and so many items that you just don't see in most grocery stores. At the time Cronig's was renovating their store. Every day was like shopping at a different store. I never knew where anything would be. Just when I figured out where the bread was it disappeared. I didn't mind. I felt it exercised my mind so I would have fewer senior moments.
I finally know where everything is at Cronig's and so does Lilah. She knows the names of many of the employees too. I like going in a store and knowing the people who work there. Maybe having a conversation about the weather or the traffic. Having owned a store in Falmouth for 25 years I knew lots of people there and I knew I would miss walking through stores and seeing familiar faces when I moved here. Maybe I just need to shop more so I can meet more people and buy more stuff. Maybe I should just delete "buy more stuff". I brought so much stuff with me when I moved here. I think my daughter might send me packing if I buy anything else other than food. There is definitely a little bit of hoarder in me.
I have found the people here to be friendly, warm, courteous and helpful. I am finally getting to know my way around the island though I can still get lost in Oak Bluffs. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather so Lilah and I can learn more about this beautiful island we live on. I'm looking forward to all the locally grown produce you can buy here. I'm sort of looking forward to the tourists.
