Recent Board of Health inspections show that several Edgartown restaurants have been ordered to correct violations and some, like The Pizza Place, have already done so. Did your favorite place get a clean report? Read on.

The first Friday of each month is when MV Patch publishes restaurant inspection reports. This month we visited Edgartown Town Hall to find out what restaurants have recently been checked out by Board of Health inspector William Clasby.
Clasby's visit to The Pizza Place April 6 found a dozen violations of what the state calls "provisions related to foodborne illnesses interventions and risk factors (red items)," including:
- no soap or towels for handwashing
- inadequate water temperature for handwashing
- food preparer working without gloves
- inadequate temperature in pizza warmer
- no working thermometers in refrigeration units
and two "violations related to good retail practices,"

- a rusted and dirty can opener
- grease from the dirty ventilation hood dripping onto the grill
However, on a return visit to The Pizza Place April 20 Clasby found nearly all the violations had been corrected, with one food-holding unit scheduled to be replaced.
The Square Rigger had four violations of the foodborne illnesses provisions when Clasby inspected the kitchen in April, including prep and line cooks not using gloves, improper temperatures for fish and meat and thermometers lacking in "all units."

Water temperature and food-storage issues dinged the Harbor View Hotel with two "red items" in April:
- water temperature in bathroom too low for handwashing
- improper temperature for holding cold food
Clasby found four "red items" at Tropical Bakery, noting
- no sanitizing buckets in place
- no towels to dry hands in handwashing area ("fixed," Clasby notes)
- allergen warning not posted
- hot and cold food holding temperatures were off
The inspector noted "Lots of yes's" from Tropical Bakery management.
Main Street Diner had a bucket of grease on the floor and some off temperatures April 6, but scored no "red item" violations.
Inspected the same day, Among the Flowers received a clean report.
Soigne on Upper Main Street had "burger over salad products" April 16, Clasby wrote.
At the Newes from America Pub April 17, Clasby noted that he spoke with the person in charge about several matters:
- "panel in dry storage needs cover"
- "handwashing sink 151 degrees by dishwasher"
- a broken GFC at an electrical plug near the sink
- "gloves & hat for line cook"
- Serve Safe certification needed to be displayed
Inspected April 19, Sharky's Cantina had no violations to correct.
Shiretown Meats had one "red item" violation April 20, Clasby wrote: "Needed allergen sign, going to handwrite it on the menu"
Also on April 20, Clasby visited R&B Eatery and found a handful of issues with which the restaurant agreed to comply, including
- the need to put hot food on ice before refrigerating it
- a lack of thermometers inside refrigerators and freezers
- gloves not being used
