A Ministry of Presence with Reverend Dr. Denis Meacham

Have you ever ached for a shoulder to cry on, an understanding soul to walk with as you struggle though a time of turmoil? If you have, you are not alone. The expectation of support and compassionate care from others is one of the most important reasons we come together in communities of faith. We will explore a lay ministry of presence and its power not only to bring healing to its care recipients but also to promote spiritual growth in its care providers.

Reverend Dr. Denis Meacham retired several years ago as Associate Minister of First Parish Brewster. He is now working on the national UU Addictions Ministry that he founded over fifteen years ago, and maintains an active psychotherapy practice in Brewster. He is the author of The Addiction Ministry Handbook and is currently finishing a new book about the organization, training, and supervision of lay pastoral care providers. Dr. Meacham, founder of the only Unitarian Universalist Jug Band, and his wife Janet are both active in the acoustic music scene on Cape Cod.
