Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Doors open at 7:48 pm (Twilight). Katharine Cornell Theatre, 54 Spring Street, Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts (Martha's Vineyard). In the three years since their inception in Burlington, Vermont, the Vacant Lots have announced their presence to attuned ears around the globe not with a roar, but with a seductive, ecstatic, hypnotic, siren call that invites the listener to experience discovery of outer realms and inner revolution. This guitar/drums duo (accented with sruti drone/tone box throughout) of Jared Artaud and Frank Zammiello have rapidly climbed to the zenith of the global underground indie-rock psych-nouveau firmament with their minimalist, driving, heavy-lidded throb, somewhere between Stooges power, deepest Blues wail, Bo Diddley jungle beat, and mystical temple-chant. Their atmospheric sound, at once modern and classic, even ancient, has earned them slots at SXSW, the Austin (TX) Psych Fest, and opening honors on tour with the legendary Sonic Boom (a/k/a Pete Kember, late of influential '80s giants Spacemen 3) and his Spectrum project. Acclaimed Brooklyn indie label Mexican Summer released the band's "Confusion/Cadillac" 7" earlier this year, a lock to be a staple of 2011 "Best of..." lists. Their performances are becoming legendary for their gravity-defying brew of huge sound and astonishing visual presentation. This performance will be the Vacant Lots' debut appearance on Martha's Vineyard. Opening the program will be up & coming Vineyard buzz-band The Loogies. Tickets for this event are $11, $13 day-of-show.
