The Vineyard landscapes suggest abstract shapes at every turn, whether large rock formations, the patterns created by the sea and wind in the sand; the silhouette of sail boats’ masts against the
sky and hills; the empty spaces between tree branches; or seaweed left along the shore.
Abstract landscapes can be created by using bold shapes and colors in strong compositional formats, watery acrylic flows, bold line patterns created by poured paint or applied paint, textured grounds and collage.
During the class, you will receive a handout containing the curriculum and extensive examples from modern and contemporary artists- Wolf Kahn, Paul Klee, Paul Resika, Arthur Dove, Georgia O’Keefe, Lawrence Goldsmith, Paul Jenkins, Maxine Masterfield, Joan Mitchell, etc. The variety of approaches exhibited by these painters illustrates how varied and with originality we can approach the landscape.
Provided Supplies and Materials Fee: The instructor will supply the materials including acrylic brushes (big and small) and black, white, red, yellow and blue acrylic paints, watercolor papers, black and white gessoes, fluid acrylics, modeling paste, gels, texture making tools, etc.) for which there will be a $25.00 supply fee.
