Meg Mercier spent most of the summer working en plein air along the water’s edge in Edgartown. She has aptly concentrated on a tribute to Manuel Swartz by painting the catboat, Edwina B. Meg occupies the studio at Old Sculpin Gallery that was once owned by Mr. Swartz and thus feels a strong connection to the history of the building and the spirit of its former owner. Working outside she became fascinated by the subtle curves of the local boats, studying parts of her subject separately before composing her final composition.
Also, continuing from last week is the Derby Show featuring works by MVAA members with fish/fishing/fishermen as their main theme.
This show is up until the Old Sculpin Gallery closes, October 8th.
