Author Talk: Chip Bishop, The Lion and the Journalist: The Unlikely Friendship of Theodore Roosevelt and Joseph Bucklin Bishop

George Washington Goethals, a member of the Vineyard Goethals Family, is remembered as the “Genius of the Panama Canal.” Between 1907 and 1914, Goethals oversaw the construction of the trans-oceanic waterway for President Theodore Roosevelt against almost insurmountable odds. “The Lion and the Journalist” tells of the remarkable and unlikely friendship of Roosevelt, Goethals, and newspaper editor, Joseph Bucklin Bishop, the great-great uncle of author Chip Bishop, as they encounter police corruption on the streets of New York, hardship in the jungles of Panama, and courageous days in the White House.
