gallery talk and art critique with Gail Rodney and Eva Cincotta

The Martha's Vineyard Art Association presents a Thursday night gallery talk and art critique at Old Sculpin Gallery, August 25 at 6pm.  Exhibiting artist Gail Rodney talks about her collaged images inspired by the poem Pied Beauty by Gerard Manley Hopkins. The artist states, “This celebration of dappled moments in nature uses language to confound the imagery, creating a puzzled moment in the reader’s mind...  While working on these projects, I have asked myself why illustrate work that stands well on its own and has no need of ornamentation.  On reflection, I realized the exercise made these works more personally my own.”  Limited editions of hand-bound books featuring all the images will be available, as well as the original collages.  Afterwards will be an art critique led by painting instructor Eva Cincotta, who will be exhibiting paintings next week.  Artists of all ages and ability are invited to bring in 3-5 finished pieces or works in progress to discuss with Eva.  This is a valuable opportunity for feedback for artists interested in joining the MVAA, or who simply wish for another informed, professional opinion about their work.  Open and free to the public, please come to Old Sculpin if you are interested in hearing about all aspects of the creative process - technical, thought process, and critical eye.  Old Sculpin is located at Dock Street, Edgartown, next to the Chappy ferry.  For more info, 508.627.4881, www.oldsculpingallery.org.
