Born in Hiroshima in 1945, Hiroko is a survivor of the atomic bomb. She grew up in post-War Japan before moving to Thailand with her late husband, Marsh Thomson, in 1970. Since then, she has lived in Washington, D.C., Manila, Hong Kong, Maui, and New York, and currently resides in Cos Cob, Connecticut. She is a free spirit, devoted to her children and five grandchildren: Francisco Marsh and Emma Julia (of Cos Cob), Leah Hiroko and Moses Yutaka (of Chilmark), and Noah Ricardo Marsh Guevara (of Manila).
Hiroko paints with watercolor on gold paper and rice paper. Her style is a mixture of traditional Chinese painting and the Ling Nan style. She finds inspiration in nature, particularly flowers, birds, fish, and insects.

In 1975, Hiroko first studied traditional Chinese watercolor at the Chinese Artists’ Guild, Manila, Philippines, under renowned Professor Chen Bing Sen, of Shanghai and Manila. Then from 1978-1979, in Hong Kong, Hiroko studied the Ling Nan style under the famous master, Professor Chao Shao-An (1905-1998), who revolutionized Chinese painting by melding traditional painting with a more expressive freestyle approach.
Hiroko’s paintings are permanently displayed and sold at the Hana Coast Gallery on Maui, Hawaii, and have been exhibited throughout the Philippines, as well as in Guam, Cyprus, Brussels, Riyadh, Jeddah, Martha's Vineyard, and Washington, D.C.
