Vineyard Women Discuss the Glorious Second Half of Life
Earlier this year West Tisbury summer resident Jill Shaw Ruddock rocked London’s publishing world with her best-selling part self-help, part scientific treatise The Second Half of Your Life. Ruddock’s book plunges readers into the stormy sea of menopause and guides them safely to the other side—the better side, Ruddock argues—of life after “the change.” Ruddock will read from her book and discuss it with Rose Styron and Laura Roosevelt at a special presentation on Monday, August 15, at 5:30 p.m. at the Federated Church, 45 South Summer Street, Edgartown.
Now in the second half of her life, Ruddock tested the waters of post-menopause and found them surprisingly invigorating. Where others see change, Ruddock sees transformation. The Second Half of Your Life gives readers a compelling framework to, as Ruddock puts it, “wake up each day with the optimism and vitality to make our lives meaningful and exciting.”

Vineyard women Rose Styron and Laura Roosevelt lead such lives. They will comment on Ruddock’s findings and recommendations and reflect from personal experience on what it means to be a productive and engaged older woman in society today.
