The Tisbury Senior Center will honor the end of slavery and African-American freedom with a Juneteenth Celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Bring a potluck dish to share, or pay $5 for admission. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of Union soldiers arriving in Galveston, Texas—one of the last slavery holdouts—to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been gone into effect two years earlier.
