Countless vessels have been wrecked off the shores of Martha's Vineyard. This exhibition will explore the fascinating and often tragic stories behind these ill-fated voyages through photos, paintings and the wreckage that has washed ashore. Visitors will see a door from the famous passenger steamer, City of Columbus, which sank off Aquinnah in 1884, and learn what underwater exploration is telling us about the relics that remain on the sea floor.
Also mingle with marine biologist Arne Carr and photographer/writer Sam Low as they describe some of their recent experiences diving at the sites of the City of Columbus and Port Hunter shipwrecks.
5 - 7 pm. Reception in the Pease House Galleries.
Free and open only to Museum members.
