Mosaics Lecture with Karen Ami

Karen Ami is the Founder and Executive Director of the first school dedicated to the study of ancient and contemporary mosaics, The Chicago Mosaic School. Although she has taught Mosaics for many years and lecturing in Mosaic Arts and Ceramics locally and internationally for many yearsShe has a BFA from Tufts University, is a graduate of the Diploma and Post Baccalaureate programs from The Boston Museum School, a MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Masters in Mosaic from Scuolo Orsoni Mosaici. Additionally Ms. Ami and has completed research and independent study in Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ireland, and Nevis, West Indies and has received numerous rewards and study grants. A working artist for over 30 years, she has exhibited  her sculptural and mosaic work  in galleries and museums around the world, such as The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston;  Museo Italimericano, San Francisco, and The Academy of Fine Arts, Sarajevo.Ms Ami has written numerous articles for publications , magazines and blogs and has lectured about contemporary mosaics here and abroad. She has designed, built,  and installed several public art projects for the City of Chicago including Chicago’s Navy Pier , the Coolglobes Project, and many public and private institutions in the Midwest. Ms. Ami  is President Emeritus of The Society of American Mosaic Artists and has served on its Board of Directors for over 7 years. She is a member of The Chicago Artists Coalition, Womens Caucus for Art, The Chicago Artists Coalition, The British Association of Modern Mosaic, the Mosaic Association of New Zealand and Australia and  Associazioni  Internazionale Mosaicisti  Contemporanei.
