Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North, Film Screening

In honor of the ongoing exhibit, We Are Marching Along: Martha’s Vineyard and the Civil War,” explore the conflict from a unique perspective.  Traces of the Trade follows ten family members as they retrace the Triangle Trade from their ancestral home in Rhode Island to the slave forts of Ghana, across the bitter Middle Passage to the sugar plantations of the Caribbean, back to America. The story reveals that the North, not just the South, was massively complicit in slavery. Former University of Pennsylvania president and professor of history, Sheldon Hackney, will introduce the film and follow it with a Q&A session.
