Morning Glory Farm Announces Opening Dates

Edgartown's beloved farm is getting ready to open its greenhouse doors this month and its farm stand in early May. On the Vineyard Haven road, Bayes Norton Farm is putting up a greenhouse this spring and should be open in June.

There's good news for fans of fresh Vineyard vegetables and herbs: Morning Glory Farm announced its opening dates on Facebook today, posting

"Morning Glory Farm is getting ready! The Greenhouse will be opening April 26th, and the Farm Stand will open a week later, on May 3rd! We can't wait to see everyone!"

Located at the intersection of Meshacket and West Tisbury roads in Edgartown, Morning Glory Farm has become an Island institution over the decades since it was founded. According to its Facebook description,

Morning Glory Farm, started in 1975 by James and Deborah Athearn, grows about 60 acres of vegetables and small fruits here on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Small successive plantings of a wide variety of crops supply the farmstand from May through December.

Crops include sweet corn, lettuce, carrots, beets, tomatoes, melons, potatoes, beans, squash, pumpkins, and more. Our "morganically-grown" herb garden provides a full assortment of culinary herbs. We also raise 2 acres of cut flowers, and small plantings of strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and beach plums. Our beef and pork are raised in Edgartown and Chilmark, and our henhouse is just down the road from the farm stand.

The farm also sells baked goods and preserves.

Another longtime Island farmstand, Bayes Norton Farm on the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, has been clearing land for a greenhouse, said farmer Jim Norton.

The Bayes Norton farmstand will open when the peas, growing now, are ready, Norton said.
