MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — It's hatching season on the island.

The Trustees of Reservations report that additional plover nests hatched on Leland Beach and the Elbow. That has caused the closure of all of Leland Beach on Chappaquiddick, as well as the Elbow at Cape Poge.

The Trustees said "a sizable amount of beach remains open to beach driving on Chappy."

The Trustees said another major nest has yet to hatch at the entrance of Norton Point. Once chicks hatch, they said, it take about a month for the chicks to gain enough weight to fly and survive on their own.
