Shark Sighting Closes Martha's Vineyard Beach

A popular beach on Martha's Vineyard closed Tuesday afternoon after a shark was seen close to shore.

EDGARTOWN, MA — A beach on Martha's Vineyard closed Tuesday afternoon after a shark was seen close to shore, police said. South Beach in Edgartown is closed to swimming, Edgartown police tweeted shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Elsewhere on the Cape, the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing warned swimmers about a shark spotted off Newcomb Hollow Beach in Truro.
