Shark Sightings Close 2 Cape Cod Beaches
One of the closed beaches was the site of a fatal shark attack in September.
TRURO, MA — Two Cape and Islands beaches were temporarily closed Tuesday after sharks were seen close to shore. Massachusetts State Police Air Wing troopers spotted a "large" white shark near Newcomb Hollow Beach on the Wellfleet-Truro line – the site of a fatal shark attack last year.
Police said they notified local officials, who closed the beach temporarily Tuesday afternoon. Beachgoers were warned to use caution while swimming.
In September, Arthur Medici, 26, of Revere, was killed by a shark as he boogie boarded at Newcomb Hollow Beach. It was the state's first fatal shark attack since 1936.
