Tisbury To Begin Hydrant Flushing On May 4

Residents may notice lower water pressure during the flushing, which is expected to last for five days.

TISBURY, MA — Tisbury Water Works will begin its annual hydrant flushing program on May 4. The flushing is expected to take five days to complete.

The program is designed to ensure that hydrants work properly and improve water quality throughout the town.

Flushing will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Water Works officials said customers may notice a severe drop in pressure, while the hydrants are flowing. Residents should not experience a total loss of water pressure. Any resident that does lose all water should call the Dukes County Communications Center at 508-693-1212, and they can contact the Tisbury Water Works crew.

Some discoloration will occur during flushing close to home. If that occurs, residents are asked to wait until crews leave the area and then run cold water from the faucet nearest the water meter, and it should clear up.

Residents are advised to check their water for discoloration prior to washing laundry. Should laundry be stained by rusty water, residents are asked to contact the Tisbury Water Works office for recommended cleaning instructions.
