All Welcome to attend: Women Breaking Loose: A One Woman Show performed by Michèle LaRue

Wednesday, September 4th, 5:30 p.m. at The Center at Medfield

About Women Breaking Loose, Michèle enthuses, “This pairing of stories by Louisianan Kate Chopin and Ohioan Edna Ferber explores in fiction two dilemmas that women still face daily: Who comes first—my family or me? Where do I belong—at home or at work?”

In Chopin’s poignant ‘A Pair of Silk Stockings,’ widowed Mrs. Sommers takes an impromptu holiday from home. In Ferber’s ‘Representing T. A. Buck,’ divorced traveling ‘lady salesman’ Emma McChesney longs for a life with a home. In both women—our foremothers—we see ourselves. As one of my New Jersey presenters exclaimed, ‘My, how things haven't changed in the last 100 years!’ "

“I love performing these vintage stories,” declares Michèle. “They were written for the ear. Listening to them, adults light up like children at story time. Despite TV and films, the Internet and CGI effects, we still crave simply to listen to a tale well told.”

Michèle tours nationally with TALES WELL TOLD: stories written by Gilded Age authors and read aloud in their day, like little plays, as home entertainment. Her presenters range from
libraries, historical societies, and museums, to women’s clubs and private homes, to colleges and national conferences. Michèle is a four-decades-long member of the Actors’ Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA unions. Offstage, she has edited many notable theatre books and periodicals. She is delighted to be returning to Medfield—with thanks to the Friends of the Medfield Library and The Center at Medfield.
