New Minister for First Parish Unitarian Universalist, Medfield

Members of First Parish Medfield last week voted unanimously to call the Rev. Meg Soens of Lexington to be their new minister, effective this August. She succeeds the
Rev. Richard Stower, who has served as interim minister for the past two years, following the 10-year ministry of the Rev. Bob McKetchnie.

Rev. Soens graduated from Andover Newton Theological School and also holds degrees from Harvard and Mount Holyoke. Her most recent position was that of interim
minister at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading.

The process of selecting a minister began almost a year ago, when the seven-member search committee – elected by the members of the church – met with an advisor
from the Unitarian Universalist Association, which advises and sets guidelines for conducting ministerial searches.

As the search progressed, the committee evaluated potential candidates and invited three for pre-candidating weekends, consisting of interviews, tours of the church and the local area, and seeing the pre-candidates in action in the pulpit of a neutral church in the Boston area.

Rev. Soens emerged as the search committee’s candidate of choice and spent a week meeting parishioners, members of various church committees, and staff members …and
conducting two services in Medfield…before the vote was taken.

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion with Jewish-Christian roots. It has no creed. It affirms the worth of human beings, advocates freedom of belief and the search for advancing truth, and tries to provide a warm, open, supportive community for people who believe that ethical living is the supreme witness of religion.

Sunday services begin at 10 am at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, located in the center of Medfield, at 26 North Street, next to Meetinghouse
Pond. It serves residents of Medfield, Millis, Medway, Walpole, Norfolk, and surrounding towns.  Child care is
available, and there is an active religious education program for children 5-14.

The church especially welcome explorers interested in learning more about the UU principles and values, one of which is a free and responsible search for truth and meaning.  The church is a Welcoming Congregation.  Phone: 508-359-4594. Web: www.firstparishmedfield.org.;
