Every Thursday in Medfield, on the lawn of the Unitarian Church, local farmers from across Massachusetts set up shop and sell a supermarket-worthy array of fruits and vegetables, from jubilantly colored snow peas to sunflower yellow squash. Being a vegetarian, my mouth was watering. Even the radishes, which looked as though they had just been plucked from the dirt, looked appetizing, calling to be sliced and tossed in a garden-fresh chopped salad.
The strawberries, at $4 a pint, were packaged in turquoise cartons, reminiscent of strawberry picking at Jane & Paul’s Farm. The fruit claimed an entire folding table. With such a selection, the fruit enthusiast could spend hours hunting for the freshest carton. At the market there is enough selection to create a whole meal, dessert included. The market even boasts a display of summer flowers and handmade fabric snack bags. Open from only 2 to 5:30 pm, I’d encourage getting there early to ensure the best and freshest medley of the fruits and vegetables.
