The Other Side of Medfield: COA Bids Farewell to Student Summer Help
The Council on Aging on August 22 2012 bid the final farewell to student summer helps.
The Council on Aging on August 22 2012 bid the final farewell to student summer helps. These were young men who volunteered to help make the Senior Center the place to be. “They did everything we asked of them” said Roberta Lynch, the COA Director, and affirmed by Bill Pardia.
The young men:
- mowed lawns ,
- watered trees and plants, and flowers
- set up tables for the cook out and other events
- cleaned out the buses inside and outside
- Weeded beds.
- Cleaned the shed
- moved decorations
- helped serve dinners
- painted the fences
- cleaned up computers
- reorganized storage rooms
- weed wacked
- talked to seniors on a variety of subjects seniors are not current on
- And a lot more.
The young men were led by Jared Barbaresi. This is Jared’s second year as a volunteer at the senior center. An 18 year old Medfield native Jared graduated from Medfield High School this year after going through the entire Medfield School system. Jared will be going to Connecticut College this fall for higher education. He plans to major in Mandarin.

Another two year veteran volunteer is Dylan Kiel. Dylan would be going to Quinnipiac College also in fall. Dylan is also a graduate of Medfield High school.
Part time helpers are Philip McCarthy and Tony Xie. Tony is a new Medfield resident who arrived in town this summer from China. He is still trying to find his way around town. Both Tony and Jared are helping each other with languages.

The Council on aging and Medfield seniors are very grateful to these young men who gave up part of their summers to make the old folks enjoy this summer and they wish them good luck on their goals.
Medfield Council on Aging is looking for volunteers to step in the shoes of Jared, Dylan, Philip and Tony. There are lots of work to be done and not enough people to do them. The center operates largely on volunteer effort as there are just four employees and some of them are part timers. Please stop by and the seniors would be very grateful.
