Celebrating Chinese New Year at Wheelock School
Wednesday, Feb 3rd, Wheelock School students celebrated Chinese New Year...

Wheelock School’s Chinese New Year Celebration included over 70 students who learned Mandarin and these students performed on Wednesday during a school-wide assembly.
In addition, and in order to include other disciplines, ALL students made Chinese Masks in Art with Ms. Babin.

The Ribbon Dance was learned and performed by two Music classes directed by Mrs. Stover.
Mr. Slason and a student also presented a YoYo demonstration, and Wheelock’s Media Specialist, Mrs. Robertson worked with students to create PowerPoint about Chinese New Year.

The MCPE graciously funded the program for the Mandarin Students to learn Tai Chi taught by Ms. Chen from the Confucius Institute at Bryant University and the Wheelock PTO supported the program as well.
2016 is the Year of the Monkey and a few students helped to incorporate that into posters displayed around the school to promote the event.
Wheelock Principal, Donna Olson, wanted to express her thanks to Mr. Yu from the Chinese Daily Press in Boston for covering this event and other local media for their attendance.
She also noted that this wonderful event was a marvelous collaboration among students, teachers, parents and community and she hope to hold this event again.
