COA Presents "History of Jazz" featuring Paul Speidel

In celebration of Mardi Gras, Paul Speidel will be presenting The History of Jazz with a "curated concert presentation" on Tues., March 5th

Medfield Council on Aging Presents Concert-Presentation "History of Jazz" with Professional Musician and Teacher, Paul Speidel.

In celebration of Mardi Gras, Paul Speidel will be presenting his program "The History of Jazz" with a "curated concert presentation" on Tuesday, March 5th at 6:30pm.

It will be held at The Center at Medfield, located at One Ice House Road, Medfield, MA 020522. Space is limited and pre-registration is suggested by calling the Center at 508-359-3665.

The History of Jazz program will be presented as a Jazz Duo, with Speidel on Guitar and a guest acoustic bassist. They will take the listeners on a musical trip back through the history of Jazz as they perform well-known pieces by the names that made Jazz great. Interweaving stories and musical anecdotes, they will piece together the development of this significant American musical genre, from its origins through its greatest achievements and its stylistic beneficiaries.

Guitarist, composer, educator and producer Paul Speidel has been a prominent beacon in Boston's extensive Jazz and Blues scene for more than two decades. His popular curated historical presentations have been attended by thousands across the region at senior centers, public libraries, churches and schools. Speidel has performed at major clubs and festivals in the Greater Boston area, such as Scullers, Ryles, Johnny D's, Acton Jazz Cafe, and many others. He taught Jazz and Blues in the Newton Public Schools for many years, and presented programs at public and private venues in the area, as well.

Speidel has appeared live on WBUR’s “Radio Boston” program to nearly 500,000 listeners, and have appeared on countless other area radio shows over the years, including WBZ with Jordan Rich (“So great having you on the show. You’re terrific!”). With ten CDs to his name, Speidel's stage credits include Patti Page, Howard Alden, Jay Geils, Duke Robillard, James Montgomery and Shirley Lewis to name just a few…
