The traditional view of aging paints a picture of declining function and health. While true to a degree, new research in Neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to change throughout an individual's life) and Epigenetics (involves genetic control by factors other than an individual's DNA sequence) shows that significant decline is not inevitable for most of us if we take steps to preserve and enhance our own brain function and bodily systems.

Dr. Suojanen lives in Medfield and has practiced Neuroradiology for more than 30 years; currently at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts. In his talk, he will review the results of some of these research studies and suggest ways in which we can optimize our aging and health, while minimizing injuries and the need for medical interventions.

The Medfield Council on Aging supports people and their families as they approach their “senior” years. Aging is not a disease, it happens. Promoting healthy living and activities is one of the reasons the Center’s largest group (41%) of participants are 80 years or older. If you are in your 50’s or 60’s, this presentation is for you. If you are in your 30’s or 40’s, this presentation is for you.

Join us at the Center as we explore Optimal Aging principles on Wednesday, January 30, at 6:30 p.m.
