A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"On April 12, 1912 Medfield Special Town Meeting voted that instead of appropriating funds to transport children from the north district of Medfield to the Ralph Wheelock School on Pleasant Street, they would instead keep the Lowell Mason School, on School Street, open. It had been recommended to close the Lowell Mason school. The Committee on Transportation of Scholars said “The Ralph Wheelock School is already overcrowded and the Lowell Mason School is in good condition and the children are doing well and as this is expected to be a growing district it would be inexpedient to close the school and the need of transportation in this district does not seen advisable. The school committee then voted to dig a well for the Mason School that contains a pump. For a number of years, the school had been without drinking water. Water was obtained due to the kindness of neighbors."
