A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"The year 1951 was suppose to mark the 300th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town but due to the outbreak of fighting in Korea and President Truman’s declaration of a National Emergency, Medfield selectmen voted to recommend all celebratory events be postponed. Said the selectmen” In addition to the conscription of many men and women from their families into the armed services, it is necessary to channel all available resources and efforts of the people into the Civilian Defense Program. All citizens of the Town should volunteer their services and resources in an all-out effort to establish a local organization for strong civil defense in accordance with the State Civil Defense plan and program. The selectmen appointed Richard Breck, Jr. as Director to organize such a civil defense program for Medfield."
