A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"The old Adams property known as “Four Elms, the Hannah Adams house in 49 Elm Street, was purchased by Davenport Brown in 1909 and underwent extensive reconstruction by architect E.T. Putnam of Boston. The original house was erected in 1714 and is now the two-story ell projecting on the eastern end of the main house, which was built in 1821. Hannah Adams, the first authoress in America to be compensated for her work and use her own name, was born here in 1755. The house had been occupied by member of the Adams family since its construction."
