In addition, Bikes Not Bombs will be collecting bicycles at the American Legion from 9-12. Bikes not Bombs is a non-profit organization that gathers donated bikes and delivers them to third world countries. Previous shipments have been delivered to a variety of different locations across the world such as New Orleans, Nevis, Ghana, Tanzania, and Guatemala. The bikes become a valuable transportation tool in places where cars are not as accessible as they are here in Medfield. They are also used to make human-powered machinery such as corn grinders and water pumps. Last year over 100 bikes were donated and the organizers are hoping to collect even more this year!
All bicycles are accepted UNLESS they are too rusted to work properly.
Also, a $10 donation per bike to defray shipping costs is requested. This will allow the group to contribute the maximum number of bikes to people who need them.
