This is the 4th in a series of short bios featuring members of the Medfield Police Department.

"Getting to Know members of the MPD" will attempt to put unity in Comm“unity” by highlighting the members of the MPD by featuring short bios.
The MPD hope these bios will give Medfield residents the opportunity to get to know them better, and strengthen the relationship between the police department and our citizens.
Officer Michael Downing
Officer Downing has a family history of law enforcement and military backgrounds. His great grandfather served as the former Chief of the Ayer MA Police Department along with other family members and his grandfather,uncle, mother and cousin proudly served in various armed forces. Michael looks up to these family members and is inspired by them to continue their legacy of
protecting and serving.

Officer Downing obtained his education at Curry College in Milton, MA, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 2017. Michael interned with the Massachusetts State Police Arson and Explosives unit where he assisted with multiple duties. including participating with training multiple K-9’s in detecting flammable and explosive items. Those K-9’s now work
state wide protecting the Commonwealth.
After college, Michael accepted a position with the Holbrook Regional Communications Center (HRECC) where he would spend the next four years fielding emergency calls of all kinds for over 7 different Police and Fire Departments.

In 2019, Officer Downing took the Civil Service test, and was ultimately offered a position with the Medfield Police Department. Michael attended the MPTC 11th ROC Randolph Police Academy where he completed over 20 weeks of rigorous training. Officer Downing has been part of the Medfield Police Department for over four years now and hopes to see himself advance within the department.
In his off time, you can find Michael out west skiing in Colorado in the winter months. During the summer, you can find him taking his Jeep out, or working on his classic Datsun 280ZX bringing it to car shows and events all throughout New England.
