According to Town Historian, Richard DeSorgher, the Hannah Adams Woman's Club is the oldest continuously running women's club, of which there is a record, in America. While it was formally organized in 1894 under the General Federation of Women's Clubs, it was started around 1775 by Hannah Adams (1755-1831), a Medfield resident who gathered female friends to read, write and socialize.
Today, among other activities, the club raises funds for scholarships awarded for continuing education upon completion of high school; and holds monthly meetings which include speakers, refreshments, and friendship.

The Hannah Adams Woman’s Club began the practice in 1968 of honoring young women at a Graduation Tea for senior girls at Medfield High School. It has been held every year since except 2020 and 2021 when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Graduation Tea has become part of the festivities surrounding commencement. The girls are invited to the home of a classmate for High Tea served by the members of the Hannah Adams Woman's Club. It is a lovely way of wishing the senior girls the very best as they begin their college years and move toward their future careers.
